Sweet Charity
15 October 2007
The afternoon of Sunday 16 September saw the Great Hall erupt into life with the annual Charity Fair.
Each house contributed a stall with some innovative games and activities to help raise money. The ever-popular face painters were much in demand, but even their individual tally of £100 was this year matched by the mystic gypsy palm readers.
Teachers, as ever, bore the brunt of some games! boring
After all the fun and games were over, the Charity Representatives had raised a very impressive £697.26 for good causes. Many of the charities that will benefit also had stalls at the Fair.
Sue Greene, from the local children's charity , was particularly struck with the quality of the stalls and the energy of the fund-raisers. Representatives from The Children’s Trust and all expressed praise for the interest shown in their work by our pupils.
The organisers of the Fair hope that some of the pupils who attended will have been inspired by these volunteers to dedicate some of their time and energy to help others later this year.
150 Years Old Today!
28 September 2007
This year our school will have been in existence for 150 years. It opened in 1857, seven years before the parliamentary act that made free education a right for every child.
As we approach this significant milestone in the life of our school the Governors have conceived an ambitious two stage plan to transform our Victorian building into a school for the 21st Century. They have commissioned an architect to redesign parts of the building and planning permission is being sought.
Plans include a mezzanine within the existing school to provide staff and meeting areas, and a rebuilding of the annex to provide a fully equiped kitchen, improved toilets and a self-contained teaching space which could also be used to provide wrap-around childcare such as after-school clubs.
A major project to raise funds and seek grants is underway. Please check the events page for the latest information on progress and events.
